Mint & Green Tea Whipped Body Butter #HamiltonBeach

This recipe is a long time coming. I have wanted to come up with my own body butter pretty much since I started going more natural a couple years ago. I experimented with several that I found online and I always found them too greasy, too hard, too complicated and just not the right ingredients. I came up with this one after trying out a few others. I think this one is the best for what I need it for; my dry feet, hands and elbows.

One thing I want to highlight in this recipe is the fact that the body butter is whipped using a stand mixer. Years ago, if you would have asked me, I would have said a stand mixer was for making mashed potatoes and cookies. Now, I think it is one of the best pieces of kitchen equipment you can have if you plan on making a lot of your own cleaners and beauty products. I was sent a Hamilton Beach 6 Speed Stand Mixer to try out and this was the first thing I made in it. I was very impressed. It was easy to use, change speeds, clean and it took up very little space on my kitchen counter. It was powerful enough to make this whipped body butter because it has a 300 watt motor. The stainless steel bowl was great for chilling the butters used in recipe as well. The tilt-up head was great for all the removing of the bowl I had to do with this recipe as well. I have no doubt this will be one of the most used pieces of equipment in my kitchen!

The body butter is easy to make, but can take up to an hour or an hour and a half of time with chilling included. So make sure you have the time set aside for it. This recipe makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of body butter when finished. It is very moisturizing so a little goes a long way.

If you are unsure where to get the ingredients for this, I have found that you can get them online for a very good price. The shea butter especially is the cheapest on Amazon. Here are some links for easy purchase:

There are a couple stages I talk about when it comes to whipping, so for visual reference, here they are:

The first stage, as it is getting creamy and is whipped for approximately 3 minutes. It will resemble foamy egg whites.

The second stage after it is whipped. This is after about 8 minutes of whipping.

Recipe type: Beauty
Ingredients
  • ⅓ Cup Raw Shea Butter
  • ½ Cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tsp Olive oil
  • 7-8 Drops Vitamin E
  • ½ Tbsp Macha Powder
  • 8-9 Fresh Mint Leaves, Finely chopped
  • 3-4 Drops Peppermint Essential oil if desired
Instructions
  1. Start by melting the coconut oil and shea butter over medium heat on the stove top. Add in the olive oil. Pour this oil mixture into a glass or stainless steel mixing bowl and place in the fridge.
  2. Chill until all of your oils start getting opaque. This means it is ready for the first stage of mixing. Place your mixing bowl on the stand mixer and attach the whip. Whip on high speed for about 3-4 minutes until it resembles foamy egg whites.
  3. Detach from mixer and place back in the fridge until it is more solid. This should be about 15 minutes.
  4. Take your oils out of the fridge and attach to your mixer again using the whip. Starting on medium speed, whip for 1 minute and then turn up to high speed and whip for 3 minutes. It should start to look like cream by now.
  5. Add in your mint, vitamin E and macha powder.
  6. Continue to whip for up to 5 minutes until it looks like whipped cream. This is the final stage and you are done!
Notes
Store for up to 2 months in the fridge. It will get semi-hard, but just take some out and use as normal. It warms up very fast with body temperature.

If you desire a more minty scent, add in your peppermint oil during the final stage when you add in the mint and macha.
